Meta Ads vs Google Ads: Which One Works Better for Indian Businesses?
We get asked this question at least three times a week. And the honest answer is: it depends. But that is a lazy answer and you deserve better. So let me break it down based on what we have actually seen running ads for 50+ Indian businesses.
The short version
If people are already searching for what you sell, go with Google Ads. If they are not searching yet but would buy if they saw it, go with Meta Ads. If you have the budget, run both.
That is it. That is the entire strategy. But let me explain why.
When Google Ads wins
Google Ads works best when there is existing demand. Someone types "best CRM software for small business" or "plumber near me" and your ad shows up. They already want what you sell. You are just showing up at the right time.
Industries where we have seen Google Ads crush it in India:
- Service businesses (dental clinics, law firms, coaching institutes)
- B2B SaaS products
- Local services (home repair, pest control, interior designers)
- High-ticket consulting
The cost per click is higher. Sometimes 50-200 rupees per click for competitive keywords. But the intent is so strong that the conversion rates make up for it. We have seen 15-25% landing page conversion rates on well-built Google Ads campaigns.
When Meta Ads wins
Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) work differently. Nobody wakes up and searches for your product on Instagram. They are scrolling, watching reels, checking what their friends are up to. And then your ad interrupts them.
This sounds bad but it works incredibly well for:
- Ecommerce brands (fashion, beauty, home decor, food)
- D2C products launching something new
- Apps and digital products
- Courses and info products
- Anything visually appealing
The cost per click is much lower. We regularly see 5-15 rupees per click in India. And with the right creative, you can get cost per purchase numbers that Google cannot match.
Our average Meta Ads ROAS across all client accounts is 6.2x. Some ecommerce brands do 10x or higher during sale seasons.
Real numbers from our accounts
Here is what we have seen in the last six months:
- Ecommerce (fashion): Meta Ads 8.4x ROAS vs Google Shopping 4.1x ROAS
- SaaS product: Google Ads 22% conversion rate vs Meta 6% conversion rate
- Coaching business: Meta Ads cost per lead Rs 87 vs Google Ads cost per lead Rs 340
- Local service: Google Ads 31% conversion rate vs Meta 3% conversion rate
See the pattern? It is not about which platform is better. It is about which one fits your business model.
How much should you spend?
For Indian businesses just starting out, we usually recommend:
- Google Ads: Minimum Rs 500-1000 per day. Below that you do not get enough data to optimize.
- Meta Ads: Minimum Rs 300-500 per day. You can test with less but results take longer.
If your total ad budget is under Rs 30,000 per month, pick one platform and do it well. Do not split between both. You will not have enough budget to learn what works.
What we actually recommend
Start with the platform that matches your business type. Run it for 30 days. Get your numbers. Then decide if you want to add the second platform.
Most of our clients end up running both after 2-3 months because each one brings a different type of customer. But starting with one lets you figure out your messaging, your offer, and your funnel before you scale.
